Are we really going there? 🫨

Reader, it's going to be a long eight weeks.

This run-up to the election may feel like your own journey through the seven circles of hell. So, this week, I thought it might be helpful to talk about the #ShowUpPositive Spark: TOLERANCE.

Tolerance is not acceptance, agreement, or condonment. Consider this definition: a fair, respectful, and permissive attitude or policy toward people whose opinions, beliefs, practices, racial or ethnic origins, etc., differ from one’s own or those of the majority; freedom from bigotry and an insistence on conformity.

Our country is more politically polarized than we've been since the Civil War.

Rhetoric is extreme, and modern communications create echo chambers of biased perspective, fueling extreme positioning.

However, our democracy and constitution protect individuals' rights to hold their opinions.

The #ShowUpPositive approach embraces democratic liberties and respects individual freedoms regardless of their diametric opposition to one's own beliefs.

With all the oppositional posturing reaching a new peak, it is easy to allow your judge to run amuck. This keeps you in a state of anxiety and worry and on guard to attack and defend, zapping your energy and effectiveness.

Instead, here are some of the gifts you can recognize and appreciate:

  • People are activated instead of apathetic
  • People are participating in our democratic process
  • Because we have a democracy, we have choice

Here are some thought traps to avoid:

  • It's your job to let people know how misguided or misinformed they are
  • If you stated your thinking perfectly, you would educate and persuade oppositional thinkers
  • Because you don't agree with someone's political views, you can't agree with them at all

Election years are doubly tough because we are pressed with all the banter, and our economic system always has a negative knee-jerk reaction that impacts the economy and your bank account.

Losing your peace is a choice you don't have to make. If you need help, my Mental Superpowers Mastermind is the perfect guide through these rough waters.

🥰 Who do you know that is looking for a speaker for meetings, workshops, or trainings? An introduction would be awesome! 🥰

Reader, I have great news! This week's #ShowUpPositive Spark, GERMINATE, is inspired by my newly planted tulip bulbs from the Keukenhof Gardens. Moonblush Tulip Bulbs My husband and I recently took advantage of the cooler weather to plant the bulbs I purchased during my trip to the Netherlands this spring. The instructions assured me that my bulbs already contained all the nutrition to germinate. All I needed to do was plant them at the appropriate depth in loose, well-drained soil. We...

Reader, I know we are supposed to hate change, but do you ever think it would do you good? This week's #ShowUpPositive Spark, RECALIBRATE, is inspired by my seventeen year old daughter. Here's the story. Sarah is a competitive equestrian rider and works on a horse farm. She has a whole circle of people in her life who are unknown to my husband and me. So when one of these folks asked her to stay at there farm and take care of the animals while they were away on vacation, we were a little...

Reader, I've got three words for you: mindset, meaning, and MacGyver. It turns out that MINDSET + MEANING + MACGYVER is the secret to this week's #ShowUpPositive Spark, RESILIENT Let's start with MINDSET and break it down. The first common trait shared by resilient people and companies is their staunch acceptance of reality. Rather than adopting a baseless optimism and being disappointed repeatedly, resilient people accept the reality of their situation, no matter how brutal, while...
